Next step in an hour, will be to attempt a more realistic eye than I usually do. Could be disastrous. Could be exciting for me. Could be anticlimactic. Could be a slight improvement.

I'm postponing the attempt. I dread botching it too much to try so soon. I'll just do it when I do it. Imagine f***ed up eyes. Oh well...There'll be something redeeming about the piece, when it's done, surely, to me.

Never paint the eyes. That can be your gimmick, "the artist who doesn't paint eyes."

By spending half an hour just on that

First big mistake on trying again with the eyes. I painted them too dark a gray.

I'm going to start using a stopwatch, to see how much time goes into actual painting. I think just the sloppy pupils took 10 minutes.
