PETA UK: ‘Shocked’ Morrissey Speaks Out Against Grimston Beagle-Breeding Farm

PETA UK have published a letter penned by Morrissey, imploring Home Secretary Theresa May to deny a license for a planned beagle breeding facility in Hull.

‘Shocked’ Morrissey Speaks Out Against Grimston Beagle-Breeding Farm - PETA UK

The letter in full:

I’m looking forward to my concert in Hull on Friday but was shocked to hear from my friends at PETA about plans for a new facility in nearby Grimston that would breed beagles to be used and killed in cruel experiments.

As I understand it, this hellhole would churn out thousands of dogs a year, confine them to a sterile prison (apparently without access to outdoor runs) and then sell them to laboratories to be injected, infected and dissected.

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of knowing a dog can tell you that they are friendly, loyal animals who should be sleeping in our beds, not dying for Botox and Viagra. As an elected official, it’s your duty to represent the public – and I can tell you without a doubt that the vast majority of us do not want beagles’ blood on our hands. I am therefore urging you to do the right thing by denying this abomination of an establishment a licence.

Why do these sick f***s do this to dogs and why are they specifying Beagles?

Where is Hull? Sounds like a name of a city full of zombies that eat each other.

Beagles are ideal laboratory dogs because (a) their sense of smell is one of the keenest of the canines and (b) they generally have an agreeable disposition and trusting nature. They are a very food-driven breed so they can easily be enticed into ingesting horrible materials.

More humanely and purposefully, their skills are used to smell out bomb materials and invasive plant/animal species in airports.

What a shame to exploit such wonderful traits.

i hate to be the grammar police, but i'm hoping you meant: "Simply disgusting. Poor creatures", instead of the sentence you did in fact write, which implies that these lovely dogs are simply disgusting, poor creatures??

Them dogs need to wear condoms. Maybe you and Nancy can put them on them when they get all frisky.

God forbid promotion, especially when there is little to no promotion otherwise. And it should be noted that it is not self promotion, but promotion of a cause that coincides with his own concert date.

My wife and I lost our first child in 1996, he was born with transposition of the great arteries. He had open heart surgery at 2 days and passed at 6 days. I do not know what pain Morrissey has gone through in his life, but I am 100% certain that it does not come close to the pain of losing your child, of having your child die in your arms as you hold him or her in the middle of a PICU room. Scientific experimentation on animals for stupid research like product testing is one thing, but medical research to save a human life is something totally different. The loss of child is the one pain that time does not heal nor does a day go by nearly 20 years later that I do not re-live that week in my mind.

I too have lost a child but I would never condone animal cruelty. Save the beagles....scienctific research should be cruelty free.

If life saving surgery can be improved through research on beagles, pigs, baby seals or dolphins....go for it. Cosmetic research is a terrible thing. Using pigs to improve military gear is a terrible thing. Using an animal as research so that to improve success rates in pediatric surgery so parents do not have to go through the pain of burying a child, of having to write the obituary for a child, of seeing your child in an infant casket....the pain of the animal research is nothing compared to the pain a parent goes through in these scenarios. There is a difference between animal cruelty in labs and animal use in required medical research that benefits all of humanity.
