Another low for Moz - it's been a total shitshow the last few years.
I'm disappointed these gigs got cancelled because I was intrigued to see what he'd actually do. He's never done an "album tribute" gig before, so the idea he was going to play all of Quarry seemed fanciful. We'll never know...
Good idea:
The Queen is Dead
Suedehead
Paint a Vulgar Picture
Sing Your Life
National Front Disco
Well I Wonder
Southpaw
Trouble Loves Me
I Will See You in Far Off Places
Squeezing My Skull
Forgive Someone
Back to the Old House
Home is a Question Mark
Rebels Without Applause
It's Over...
I mean if you hadn't seen Morrissey in the past few years it would probably be perfectly acceptable, but frankly most of these songs (even the good ones) are feeling very tiresome when you consider the alternatives he could be playing. It's all very stale despite his and band's fine form
Just on the train back to Manchester - I'd say Morrissey and the band were on very good form. It felt a much better gig than the last time I saw him in 2022 at the Apollo in Manchester - whole gig fell a bit flat for one reason or another another.
The Empire is a lovely theatre and these sort...
Paris is dross that's been played to death, Telephone is awful, Notre Dame is conspiracy nonsense.
Honestly, we should expect better - I'm not asking for all the "old" favourites even, but how much better would even this run of songs be: Once I Saw the River Clean, Forgive Someone, Rebels...
This run in the middle is a tough old slog and I like I Wish You Lonely!
Paris
Notre Dame
I Wish You Lonely
Sure Enough; The Telephone Rings
The Night Pop Dropped
Hard to believe that when Low in High School came out Morrissey was releasing a selection of cohesive 7" singles, pop shops in Camden, a special show on 6 Music at Maida Vale and an appearance on Jools Holland. It maybe not have been his finest album, but christ how far he has fallen since then!
Think that's what's so depressing, surely somebody around Moz has enough balls and sense to call this dreck out? Maybe that's why Alain got out quick...
My thoughts exactly - I think Morrissey has copped a lot of undue flack in the media over the past few years, but this indulgence in cranky conspiracy nonsense is the absolute low point in his career.
I thought the tedious lyrical obsession with free speech and being silenced was bad enough...
1. National Front Disco
2. Trouble Loves Me
3. Mute Witness
4. The Operation
5. Hold On To Your Friends
6. Home is a ?
7. Dog
8. Istanbul
9. The Youngest Was the Most Loved
10. Come Back to Camden
10. Paris
11. Bengali
The fact Haslam regularly draws on Moz stories and anecdotes for his own career would suggest there's no great secret to be revealed. He'd look just as bad by association. Beyond the obvious worst case scenario news, I'm not sure anything about Moz would be surprising or news. He's often petty...
My thoughts exactly - but if its that awful, particularly in this climate, then you'd surely want it out in the open to 'cancel' Moz for good. If Haslam/Marr know something then why would they ignore it? Marr even threated a reunion with that 2008 pub meet-up - seems highly unlikely he'd want to...
I'm not sure Marr is that arsed about Morrissey, clearly he's bored as anyone at being asked about him and The Smiths. I don't think its any great revelation that Moz is an awkward sod who bears grudges and falls out with people, clearly him and Marr have nothing in common these days.
If Marr...
