couple of thoughts on this thread...
I don't want to think of myself as an ex-hardcore kid, but in reality I was really a part of that scene for only like 2 years, and havent seen a show in awhile, and don't listen to any current bands
Otherwise - Shelter DOES INDEED rule, or at least mantra does, some great f***ing lyrics there.
Davey Havock, and old AFI also is incredible. My favorite bands are al from the cbgbs scene, especially underdog, and sick of it all. I liked all of those bands, although they were/are all obnoxious nyc guido tough guys more or less...
I also always wanted to start a somewhat off-guard hardcore band, and cover an obscure, heavier-ish morrissey song and pull it off well. I love how quicksand translates How soon is now into their "post hardcore" sound. I think a song like maladjusted would work GREAT for something similar
