couple of thoughts on this thread...

I don't want to think of myself as an ex-hardcore kid, but in reality I was really a part of that scene for only like 2 years, and havent seen a show in awhile, and don't listen to any current bands

Otherwise - Shelter DOES INDEED rule, or at least mantra does, some great f***ing lyrics there.

Davey Havock, and old AFI also is incredible. My favorite bands are al from the cbgbs scene, especially underdog, and sick of it all. I liked all of those bands, although they were/are all obnoxious nyc guido tough guys more or less...

I also always wanted to start a somewhat off-guard hardcore band, and cover an obscure, heavier-ish morrissey song and pull it off well. I love how quicksand translates How soon is now into their "post hardcore" sound. I think a song like maladjusted would work GREAT for something similar

that sounds like an awesome idea. boy racer with breakdowns...ftw.
there is a hardcore comp that is a tribute to the smiths. i think its called the world still wont listen. it was uploaded to here at some point. search it out. some of the songs are decent.

I didnt really like it, save a few songs

A few bands did their songs as jokes if I remember correctly, like the meatmen, who violently despise morrissey, and anal c*** hahah

When I was a kid I used to be in the punk/ hc scene, got to see the Mantra tour in '96 but my favourite Shelter album was Attaining the Supreme, it actually sounds a bit like that whole mid-80's stuff coming from DC ie. Ignition, One Last Wish, etc...

i saw that tour too!! that was h20s first tour also. VOD also was on the bill for that night. that was a great show.

its funny cause i was just looking at pics from that show last nite. so weird.
 
Love refused, too bad they're gone. The old band members still makes good music though. Like Text especially. And Sandström solo.

Other good bands that hasn't been mantioned (as far as I've seen) + recommended album: (some crust, screamo and other as well)

And The Bear Quartet has some hardcore influences these days, especially like I Know My Owner and The Supremes for their 2005 album Saturday Night.

Swing Kids!!! Great band! Eric Allen (who also played in Unbroken) committed suicide in '98, he had a big Viva Hate tattoo on his forearm...you can see it on the B-Side of the Swing Kids picture disc.

since this is a morrissey board, let me just say, that I thought that modern life is war had lyrics that were of the same caliber of morrissey's

I will always consider myself a punk/ hardcore kid, despite the fact the city I live in seems to be suffering from the fluro-indie-hipster epidemic at the moment. I wish there were more hardcore shows here.

My favourite bands include Minor Threat, Black Flag, Minutemen, Converge, Modern Life is War, Swans, Bikini Kill, Rites of Spring, BAD BRAINS, Unbroken, Gorilla Biscuits, Wipers, Government Issue, FLIPPER, Kill Your Idols, Cro-Mags, BLACKLISTED, Twelve Hour Turn, YAPHET KOTTO, This Machine Kills, Envy, Sick Of It All...uh, I'll stop now.

They were awesome, I remember seeing them with converge, they blew converge off the stage. I have my love. my way, but witness was a million times better.

american nightmare/give up the ghost are probably my favourite hardcore band, along with the likes oh hopesfall, champion, poison the well.

the first 2 comeback kid albums are belters aswell.

some of them are belters.

Love like electrocution were amazing, some with botch, circle takes the square, Canada songs by Daughters was brilliant.
 
Just listen to these bands, you don't need much else. They've probably been mentioned over and over.

Unbroken, fair enough but the others are a bit too new.
