Every great record has a song that is better than any of the singles on it. That is the flagpost of a really great record. I am going to throw out Viva Hate first and see how this goes. So my first vote is easy and goes to...

Hairdresser On Fire:guitar:

Feel free to play along. If people are interested we will move to Kill Uncle next.

Here is my vote

Kill Uncle - Mute Witness

'Hairdresser On Fire' wasn't on 'Viva Hate'.

'Hairdresser On Fire' wasn't on 'Viva Hate'.

It was on the U.S. release as a bonus track, smack dab in the middle of side B.

Vauxhall and I would have to be "Billy Budd" as single material, or perhaps "Why Don't You Find Out...". Or, of course -- "Speedway."

That's why V & I is a truly great album -- any of those three are as good or better than the three singles culled from the album.

Wai, wai, wait. How do the rules work again? Is this a game?

So you'd rather we avoid picking the singles? Just making sure.

My choice from "Viva Hate" would be "Late Night, Maudlin Street."

My choice from Viva Hate would be "I Don't Mind If You Forget Me"...

This is stupid, I'm not going to wait to post my picks...

Viva Hate - I Don't Mind If You Forget Me
Kill Uncle - Driving Your Girlfriend Home
Your Arsenal - Seasick, Yet Still Docked
Vauxhall & I - Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself
Southpaw Grammar - Southpaw
Maladjusted - Trouble Loves Me
You Are The Quarry - The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores
Ringleader Of The Tormentors - Life Is A Pigsty
Years Of Refusal - It's Not Your Birthday Anymore

The Smiths - Reel Around The Fountain
Meat Is Murder - I Want The One I Can't Have
The Queen Is Dead - Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

"We'll Let You Know"
"Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself?"
"Do Your Best and Don't Worry"
"Ammunition"

"Suffer Little Children"
"Handsome Devil"
"The Headmaster Ritual"
"I Know It's Over"
"Paint A Vulgar Picture"

One track from each record is tough so I'm bending the rules a bit.

Viva Hate - Alsatian Cousin or Break Up The Family
Kill Uncle - Our Frank or Sing Your Life
Your Arsenal - We'll Let You Know
Vauxhall and I - Speedway
Southpaw Grammar - Teachers Are Afraid Of The Pupils or The Boy Racer

Meat Is Murder - The Headmaster Ritual
The Queen Is Dead - The Queen Is Dead or I Know It's Over
Strangeways Here We Come - Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me

In response to all the bitches who would undoubtedly scoff at all the "shitty" songs I like, let me just say this in advance: f*** all y'all haters, u don't know me, I do what I want, etc.

Your Arsenal - Tomorrow
Vauxhall & I - Now My Heart Is Full (tough call)

Years Of Refusal - It's Not Your Birthday Anymore

The Smiths - Suffer Little Children or Miserable Lie
Meat Is Murder - I Want The One I Can't Have

Thanks for playing along. I am surprised that nobody thought their was not a track on the album that was better than the singles. Maladjusted comes to mind that might not have a song better song on the album than the singles. "Trouble Loves Me" and "Ammunition" are both good songs but might not be better than the singles.

Oh. FAIL on my part; I didn't read the whole introductory rule set, I thought we were just picking favorite tracks.

So I'd put in Please for William, Vulgar for Loved Me, Maudlin Street for Sunday, Disappointed for Playboys, Merchant for Boxers.
