This is second annual poll of best cover version.
All the songs are released or performed live in 2008.

I'm aware of other cover versions (Jamie Stewart, Lor, Rob Dickinson etc), however I was unable to find youtube or myspace to listen to them.

Hope someone will upload Twilight Sad's "Half a Person".

Vote will end 6th December 2008.

Thank you very much for voting. :)

Re: Best Smiths & Morrissey Cover Versions 2008

I love some Amanda Palmer. :sweet:

and The Mountain Goats one is good, too.

Aw, I was hoping for a better cover from the Mountain Goats, tbh.
I voted for Spoon. Pleasantly surprised to find they obviously like the Smiths. Not much in the way of creative license, but a good rendition nonetheless.

Re: Best Smiths & Morrissey Cover Versions 2008

Of those listed I guess it's the Colin Meloy cover of Ask.

The Marianne Faithfull recording of Dear God though is just f***ing horrible...

Re: Best Smiths & Morrissey Cover Versions 2008

For my money, The Trash Can Sinatra version of I Know It's Over is simply amazing.

Excuse me, Trash Can Sinatra's cover version was released in 1996.

This is a part of annual polls which commemorate this year's event.

You're excused.

Can I just say that Jazzanova cover of Dial a Cliche is dog shit.

Uncleskinny's Yes I am Blind!

I'm going to post a poll thread of Best Smiths / Morrissey cover version by non-professional 2008.

I'm compiling the list at the moment.
If you know some good cover versions apart from Franissey, Uncleskinny (with King Leer) and Yellow Bentine, please send me a PM with youtube links.
Thank you very much for your help. :)

Could I request that this be added to this poll? Its in the Downloads/Bootlegs section and I have never heard anything more divine!

Re: Hold on the horses

I love Amanda Palmer. Her cover version of Please.... is beautiful and emotional.

I also like Marianne Faithfull's cover of Dear God. It's very raw.

Re: Hold on the horses

Less than 2 hours left, yet only 18 people voted. :(

Please vote your favourite cover version.

Thank you very much!!

You forgot The Killers, why don't you find out for yourself.

*sigh*

If you are a fan of The Killers you know their cover version was done few years ago.
They hadn't played the song first time this year.

This is the second annual Smiths / Morrissey Best Cover Version poll.

Last year's winner was Radiohead's The Headmaster Ritual.
