Hello, I am studying Sociology at Leicester Uni and was thinking of doing my dissertation on The Smiths and Manchester in the 1980's. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to say a few a words on the following topics:
The age old question, what do the smiths mean to you e.g. what do they symbolise, how did they come to mean more to you than just another band?
This one is more for people living in england/manchester at the time...what did the smiths represent at the time and if at all how did they change manchester at the time?
More general Manchester question...was it apparent that manchester changed much in the 1980's not just aesthetically but like attitudes etc..
Can anyone recommend any books that may be useful for this topic?
Can anyone PM me any contacts not on this site who may be willing to answer a few questions?
Any links to similar threads would be nice too.
