Johnny Marr announces new double album

He's a good looking guy who has aged incredibly well, that should be more than enough. He just tries very hard to project a 'cool', youthful, almost teenage sort of image at times. All the posturing with the guitar, the facial expressions, the 'Johnny f***ing Marr' thing... it's just a bit cringeworthy.
I think that’s just who he is, who he’s always been. Teenagers don’t look or act like that.

Nothing to frighten the kidz. The boy done good. Top bloke. Legend. Icon. Way Cool fella. Would love to have a pint of hummus with him. Get in!

And so forth...

.
Jealous of his success. Too bad Morrissey has to make up his “good” news.

Depends on how you define ‘success’.

One look at the posts in this thread, and anyone can clearly see that many don’t consider this Marr song a success.

And why bring Morrissey into this? May as well compare Andy and Mikes ‘good’ news and success stories also.

Teenagers don’t look or act like that.

And neither do adults. Looks more like mid-life crisis, and squeezing another dollar out of the pop music game. And good for him! He should, but we should also just recognize that’s all that he’s doing.

A high proportion of his 800k plus social media followers and the 41k viewers on you tube seem to like it, which is a far better gauge than the views of a handful of posters on here.

Yes a portion may like it.

The same could be said for any artist, they all have their fans support on display on different media platforms.

But, true, this is a Morrissey/Smiths fan site, so reception of a Marr solo work is not going to get the same sycophantic adulation from his fans that he receives else where. Not surprising.

The vid is heavy on symbolism that would be in a younger artist's vid. Such a slave to the music industry. Poor Johnny.

Lots of views and positive comments on Johnny's new single. 31k on You Tube, 37k on Twitter and 49k on Instagram within a day of it appearing. May be a reason BMG signed him as he has 800k followers across social media.

Not bad at all; could pass for a later Electronic track.

or New Order ...

a Marr fan pointed this out in the
YouTube comments, observant. though pinching a bass line to even a small degree is not a crime of course, but Marr should give credit where credit is due, maybe he will.

I do think it is quite interesting that the new album is being released as 4 x 4 track EP's. It is almost like an admission that across 2 albums of Johnny's solo work you will probably have 4 decent songs.

Well, to be fair, I’ve heard a fairly recent New Order track which emulated Marr’s guitar work.

Yes, very cool. And why not.

Remember reading in Set the Boy Free (?) where Bernard and Johnny where a bit upset when they worked with one of the members of Kraftwerk and he wanted to do something more rock heavy rather than electronic like they wanted to do. Lol.

That so much focus is spent on Johnny's hair/hair color is a sad testament to how far our culture has devolved and now overemphasizes image. Who gives a sh-t? If he wants to do it and likes it and feels comfortable doing it, I continually fail to see why it's such a pressing issue for people who claim to be fans or are former fans. It's another case of a painful double standard being applied. Morrissey's hairstyle has been out of fashion for a couple decades, if it was ever truly fashionable outside the fandom, post-Sixties.

Agreed, especially considering he didn't even behave that way when he was a teenager in The Smiths!

that’s because Mozzy was hogging up all the limelight, Johnny knows there was only room for one ham in the band.
