Myspace, Facebook, Bebo, & other party-line sites...

I just deleted my account on Facebook today. I don't even know why I made an account in the first place (social pressue, anyone?), but it got so f***in annoying, I mean the way everybody exposes their lives for everyone-else to see (and expects someone to care). For f***s sake, nobody cares what you ate for lunch!

I totally know what you mean. And if you expose yourself on such a site, don't be surprised if some people take advantage.

I haven't used myspace in a long time. But I do use facebook a lot to keep in touch with old friends that live in other countries so we can still comunicate and see our pictures and so forth. I don't like adding random people. I have a ffew that I don't know IRL there.
I spend alot of time on the internet and don't go out that much and that's an old habit I have to change, my raising in latin america made me stay at home every night and now that I shouldn't be afraid of going out at night I stay at home talking to my old friends.
Nobody ever did anything bad to me through internet. But i confess I've pretended to be somebody else once so I could get information about another person. :D

Myspace is great for looking for bands. I have Facebook to stay in contact with mates and share photos of nights out. Although I have a phone for that so I hardly ever use either. I dislike them both really. I'm going old school and using the telephone.

you see that is my problem:(

nor do i my dear. I felt quite empowered today, as a person who walked out of work and left all his S*** for us to sort out, requested me on facebook....i took great joy in 'ignoring" it:D

I just want you there with me Terry :)

i will find you, good sir.

I use facebook to talk to my next door neighbour and another friend who lives around the corner. Like to keep it local.
Lately though I have been having a problem with my cousin chatting to my friends all the time & posting pictures that I don't want her to post. And I make it a point to never look at my boyfriends page.

What do you think of these sites?

They are mainly for hooking up, but if you have an interest in music, they are fantastic for keeping in touch with bands, as most run their own myspace and do answer fan mail.

Have you ever "had trouble" on them?

Define "trouble".

Have you ever "been fooled" by thinking that someone liked you on their only to find out it was a false profile/inclinations from them?

I don't quite understand the question, but since 99% of my friends are bands, I will go with no. Final answer.

Hi,
However, I'm going w/ the positive attitude that I have every right to be there as those people, I'm capable of love & being loved & I'm not looking for anything but a good time.... thanks.
Chill bella! This iccident shouldn't cause you ill will towards yourself. Rock on!

Plus, you could meet someone around town and they may not be completly honest with you. That's just the way it goes. Fear not thine internet.

Learn and live, mon ami.

Friend of mine had poached eggs for breakfast.

Wish i could be bothered to get out of bed for breakfast.

On a serious note. I don't understand why people would expose their lives online. I'm not sure of anyone who does. I mean if one of my mates were sad i'd expect them to pop round and harrass me to put the kettle on, not post as sad smilie on faceebook.
I didn't buy in to facebook personally through social pressure, it's just an easy and sometimes amusing way to get in touch with friends. I dunno why else you'd bother.

Must dash, someone's just posted on my superhugefunwall!

I had facebook I deleted it. I have myspace and visit my own myspace once every 3-4 weeks.

On air now, the radio station, NJ101.5 is discussing these sites & whether or not people have used them for real friends/work-related issues/social networking, etc.

However, every call that has been portrayed ALL had indicated that people that used them also cheated on their current spouse and/or partner or were involved in twisted relationships. It's indicated that psychological studies are going to be formulated on how this is an aspect to peoples relations, interesting.

Likewise, it was also listed that the people on those sites, have had more "difficulties" in social situations b/c of friend's posts on their and/or situations discussed on them.

This discussion shed light on the important subjects too, of: maturity, professionalism, judgementalism, discrimination, trust, security & jealousy.

I can't believe all of this came from computer websites like these!

I have Facebook (which I got tired of because you have to give flowers or hugs or some other crap to people) I have LiveJournal, MySpaz. I use MySpaz more than any other. Nope. Never had trouble on any of them. My profile is Private so I have to approve you before you can be on my friend's list. Nope, never been fooled. I always look at someone's page before I ask them to befriend me. I have some very good friends on MySpace. Also, I'm in a group on LiveJournal which is top secret but fun :p

Yes, for music contacts, gig news (especially for less well-known artists), you can't beat MySpace at the moment. I don't generally use it to socialise, though. (Well, iamkali and I sometimes antisocialise there, if that counts. :p)

Facebook - never got the hang of it.

LiveJournal and Solo are where I "pick up" people who I go on to meet up with in real life.

To Mozzy1: Don't beat yourself up. I got conned once, as well; the twenty-something chap with whom both I and one of my friends were having an enjoyable online flirtation, turned out to be a 15 year old girl! I'm much more careful now and post friends-only on my journal and members-only on communities.

Hahaha, was it Buffy or Harry Potter slash? :D

What they did to you was horribly cruel and awful. I just can't imagine how sick one has to be to "joke" someone like that. YET I think it's something you ask for. Not literally, but with your attitude, the things you say etc. You expose yourself too much. It's like you want to be a victim.

As for tonight, good luck, chill out and have fun! :)

Seconded. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you show people weakness you run the risk of the unpleasant ones using it against you.

Hope it went well, Mozzy1.

That's why I don't approve friendship requests from people (men, that is) who have only women on their friends lists. LOTS of women.
