Paul Heaton slags off Morrissey and praises Marr in new song

I've not heard the song but the lyrics are highlighted in the Mojo review of Heaton's new album, 'Manchester Calling'.
Marr is praised for being 'cool'. Profound stuff!

Johnny accused the Housemartins of ripping off his sound and recycling Smiths songs, so I'm not sure the love is mutual.

Well, it will be interesting to see the lyrics. As a lifelong socialist, I'd say his position would have been expected.

By the way, he's sold out many places on his tour with Jacqui Abbott. Including Leeds Arena. Which Morrissey has not.

He's nearly sold out all of the arenas he's playing along with Castlefield Bowl! Loved his Beautiful South stuff but not heard much of his solo output.

Well pointed out, young fellow. That will put Morrissey in his place! There is way too much positivity for him round here. You really are doing a marvellous job, and making an excellent use of your spare time at the weekend. Bravo!

Heaton needs a female singer from the Beautiful South alongside him for anyone to be remotely interested in what he does. He tried to be genuinely solo about 10 years ago releasing albums with just him singing, and touring on his own. Nobody gave a shit, so he effectively had to reform the Beautiful South.

I'm sure Morrissey is devastated.

This is like Liverpool being slagged off by Tranmere Rovers.

Well when Morrissey continually trumpets minor triumphs, and doesn't sell out his Leeds Arena date, I'd say Paul Heaton has the upper hand here. He sells more songs than Morrissey, and he sells more tickets than Morrissey. By any measure you like, he's more popular. So I'd say he has every right to slag off an act he sees as failing and bigoted. Because he's right.

He had a pub in Manchester, used to sing upstairs about 10-15 years back. I think he’s a good singer, and of course incredibly brave to write a song slagging Morrissey, Braveheart

Heaton with a Beautiful South singer is successful. Heaton on his own most certainly his not. He even mentioned at the time that he had nowhere near the following of Morrissey. He released 2 solo albums. Go and look up their chart positions or sales if you know how. Heaton as a solo singer has never sold anywhere near as many songs as Morrissey - apologies for the pain that will cause you, pal.

I actually don't mind some of Heaton's work, but he's nowhere near Morrissey's league.

Hey, Skinnybob, you've forgotten to mention that the Cruel World Festival, that Morrissey is headlining, has sold out. Within less than an hour, btw. You really should've mentioned that.

I know you are thick but who the hell is Diane Abbott?

Maybe not but Heaton has sold out the whole of Leeds arena (and most of the other dates on his arena tour along with Castlefield Bowl) whereas Morrissey hasn't even sold out the 60% of the capacity they have made available.

Yep, fair play to him, he has single handedly sold out the 28000 capacity Cruel World Festival - the man is phenomenal.

I know. Miraculous. I mean, it's almost as if he can't sell out shows where he's the only act. How odd is that?
