tell us about the last Film you saw

Moonrise_Kingdom_FilmPoster.jpeg

I was a problem kid and in the XMAS break after my 12th birthday my parents sent me off to a "Bible camp" up in the mountains near Los Angeles
while there I met a girl who hated the camp as much me, we ran off together for 3 days, I broke into an empty cabin a few miles from the camp
we came back when we ran out of food, we promised we would write each other, but I never saw her again after my parents had to come pick me up early
and now I don't even remember her name and her image is being replaced by one of the girl from this movie "Suzy Bishop"
so did I like this movie?
I don't know, it did remind me of a time when I was still so young, so pure and so passionate...

Haven't seen the Linda Lovelace film but did watch Inside Deep Throat which was excellent.

Watched This Is The End this week. Good fun.

The Hills Have Eyes (2004)

A pure sadistic ego trip for the director who is just as disturbed as the director who directed the human caterpillar films. You can always seem to spot an disturbed egotistical director in such film making, especially horror. Anyway, the film lacked believable characters, instead of feeling sympathy for them, you would rather see them all caught. It lacked anything intriguing or interesting. I couldn't spot any funny black comedy. I think this sentence would sum up the film quite nicely, "Sloth from the Goonies chases man with an axe". That's all the film is when you peel the layers, nothing adds up and leaves the audience far from entertained. But I'm sure the director gets plenty of pleasure to fulfil his ego. Maybe I'll watch the original from 1977? Maybe things improve in the sequel? But I'm not in much of a hurry to watch them.

Not a review, but a film I tried to get into recently was Elysium, but I couldn't even watch after the first half an hour. God, it's bloody boring! Matt Damon is one of the worst actors ever. I was really looking forward to it too :(

My eyes and ears are now focused on Gravity, it's had massive appraisal by James Cameron, which can only be a positive in my book!

here ya go Davie....:)

Source Code. 2011. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga.

A ground- breaking movie for me, In that it is the very First I can remember Jake G actually being in, and doing some Actual Acting, as opposed to the usual sleepwalking he somehow gets away with through his movies.

The story centres around a US special government/Military operation called "Source code", which can enable them to send back people in time, ( for 8 minutes) to stop terrorist atrocities from happening...In this case, a bomb on a train, which could then possibly trigger an even larger bomb explosion in Chcago.

Jake plays a Special ops soldier, who is sent back to become a passenger on the train, in order to find out where the bomb is, and who the bomber is....In Just 8 minutes.
If he fails, he is sent back again ( and again), to search for clues, until he eventually succeeds in his mission (?).

I think Duncan Jones is going to be one to watch as a director in future, as, as with "Moon", he has pulled off a rather intelligent Sci-Fi movie, and on a pretty low budget (same as "Moon"..)

Again, as like Moon, it has obvious Nods to other Sci-Fi "Classics" ( this time, it is "Quantum leap ( or Quantum Jump, Where The guy "becomes" somebody else, in order to change the persons time-line sort Of thing...)
.
Its closest relation, film -wise, is a Denzel washington film called "Deja Vu", which also involved jumping through time/space, in order to stop a bomb going off ( this time, it was on a ferry....Oh, and Deja Vu is a rather good movie too....well worth seeking out...just for the "Car chase" scene alone, which is brilliantly "Original"...)

I cannot say too much about this film, without giving the plot away, but, if you liked Moon, you will enjoy this.
It is also handy if you have a "Time travel/Quantum override device" handy ( I.E., a remote control to rewind the film, as some of the action and Pacing is just too close up, and too fast to really take in, in one viewing.
The "Love" interest is played by Vera Farmiga, and...THIS time...A "Love interest" sub-plot actually helps the film along, instead of just being Eye candy ( Speaking of which, Ladies,( and any others interested..) Jake G has a seriously sexy Butt in this film, all suited up and trying to save the world).

I would highly recommend this movie to anybody who enjoys a bit of cleverly made Sci-Fi, but, Beware, it DEMANDS Full concentration on the viewers part....
I am not exactly sure "How" the story ended....Still getting the noggin around that...But I would give it 9.5/10....It loses a half point because the opening Music was just atrocious...but got better as the film progressed...

Cool, thanks for the review :) The plot seems familiar to me somehow...I'm sure I've seen a similar sort of film a few years ago. But I will definitely buy it if I come across it at my local market if it's as good as Moon!

Disconnect is about the bad side of the computer age ie: identity theft, cyber bullying. Justin Bateman is in both. My boss could have been a character in Horrible Bosses as she is a bit crazy.

is that the best you can say? I hope not
so yeah, mainly based on my previous association with people oin that "biz" I have seen while "hanging out" back in the day*
the performances of:
Melora Walters, Burt Reynolds and Heather Graham standout, making it a must see for anyone considering porn :blushing:

like others here, I am not a fan of Jake G(unlike his sister who I adore) however, Anne H. seems genuine in it so:
C+

My boss and co-worker both recommended this film, which I was not expecting to like, but I must say as far as Michael Bay films go, this was very entertaining and at its best an intelligent and thought-provoking critique of crime, fame, and the American dream. The movie, based on a true story - though I'm not sure how "true" it is, stars Mark Wahlberg as a body builder and personal trainer to the wealthy who essentially thinks he is entitled to a bigger piece of the pie. He recruits fellow body builders, including The 'Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson' Rock, to help him carry out a plan that includes kidnapping, extortion, and eventually murder. About halfway through the movie kind of falls off the rails tonally. That is, it remains fun to watch, but it loses the satirical elements that at the beginning made it much more solid than any other Michael Bay films. A very high C+ or a low B.

Regarding Boogie Nights: Sorry I didn’t go into much detail. This was probably the tenth time I’ve seen Boogie Nights because I love this movie and thought it was a great comeback for Burt Reynolds. The guy who played the crackhead when Dirk and is buddies went to his mansion to sell fake coke was so spot on. Everyone is superb in this movie I give it an A.

Oh, and I did see Love and Other Drugs because of Jake and I did not like it. C-

Went to see upstream color earlier this evening. One of the most beautiful disconcerting films i've ever seen. Definitely my favourite film so far this year. I can't stop thinking about it.

After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

Meh. Was expecting something different. John Malkovich is in it...guess he needed the cash.

Worst zombie film I have ever seen...and there are a lot of naff b-movie zombie films :p

"Song for Marion".

I thought Gemma Arterton held back a little, when she could have just gotten OAP Terry drunk and raped him right there on the piano, but sad old British codgers always make me cry, so I did.

And Vanessa was amazing, I thought.
