you must not tamper with arrangements
Johnny Reggae by The Piglets is among the pre-show plays, a novelty ska song written by Jonathan King released with a fun video -

That's not all though. The song gained multi-cultural importance as others adapted it, and some of that story is told here

Do the Reggay by Toots and the Maytels from 1968 is considered the first song to be credited as reggae, though composed sort of accidentally - https://www.songfacts.com/facts/toots-the-maytals/do-the-reggay

But the genre was in the making for quite some time already in Jamaica, a fusion of many styles as described here - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/bring-the-noise/the-rise-of-reggae/zdkxqp3

“If I Were a Carpenter” was first recorded by Tim Hardin in 1967. The song... was inspired by engineer John Judnich, who constructed a small recording setup for Hardin, and by actress Susan Morss, who appeared alongside Hardin on the album cover of Tim Hardin 2.
The song has been widely covered by artists including Bobby Darin, Johnny Cash & June Carter, The Four Tops, and Joan Baez. - https://genius.com/Tim-hardin-if-i-were-a-carpenter-lyrics

Morrissey covered Lenny's Tune in California Son, a song written by Hardin (who seems to be becoming another rebel without applause) about his friend, the brail-blazing comedian Lenny Bruce, in whose house the small recording studio was built by Judnich that inspired 'If I was a Carpenter' -https://archive.org/details/Lennys-Tune_Tim-Hardin-[/MEDIA]

English translation:

Pity Those Who Love You

A river cannot,
oh, no, no,
leave its sea
and never return.

I won't lose you,
oh, no, no,
so I won't go away
but I still pray to you:

Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who love you,
have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who have done wrong.
I didn't want the harm done to you,
pity, pity, pity for this love.

I certainly won't be,
oh, no, no,
as you would like
but I love you even more.

You no longer trust,
oh, no, no,
but the good you love me
is never finished.

Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who love you,
have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who have done wrong.
I didn't want the harm done to you,
pity, pity, pity for this love.

Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who love you,
have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on those who have done wrong.
Pity, pity, pity for those who love you......

Was that clip from the Murder She Wrote trailer also used as Morrissey pre-show material? If so, thank you for contributing Jurgen. It sort of captures the confusion about a lot of world events over the past couple of years, and maybe in general : )

the video that was shown (here, incorrectly titled)
