Information

What follows is a compendium of known Morrissey and Smiths concert bootlegs. This list is by no means complete, and additional entries are not only encouraged but needed.

In addition to venue and date of performance, full tracklists will be provided. Moments of note are also listed as well; for example, if a particular concert contains a one-time only performance of a song (i.e., Come Back To Camden at the London Palladium in August of 2011), or if the concert was of particular historical significance in Morrissey's career (i.e. the 1992 Madstock concert or the 2004 MEN birthday show.) Where available, known CD art will be provided as well.

Additionally, a subjective letter-grade regarding sound quality will be offered.

Letter grades are as follows:

A: Excellent
B: Very Good
C: Good
D: Poor/listenable
F: Very poor/for completists only

Note

This is the bootleg commonly known as "Same Day Again." While this recording is soundboard-derived, a good quality audience recording also exist of the same show, with several songs played at this concert that were edited out for the FM broadcast from which this version originated. The songs missing from the FM broadcast are I Want the One I Can't Have, Rusholme Ruffians, and Handsome Devil. Additionally, the FM version edits out approximately one minute from How Soon Is Now.

Note

This is the concert from which the offical live LP, Rank, was assembled. Being mixing desk-sourced and mastered for catalog-album inclusion, obviously the official versio nhas the edge where sound is concerened. Nonetheless this audience recording is very listenable, and -unlike its official incarnation- includes the entire, unedited setlist as played.

1. Intro
2. The Queen Is Dead
3. Panic
4. I Want The One I Can't Have
5. Vicar In A Tutu

Note

This is the "Rank" show as described above, however this version -though soundboard sourced rather than recorded by an audience member- differs significantly both from the above bootleg and the official live release. Utilized for FM radio broadcast, this version has excellent sound and also features three tracks not included on Rank (it should be noted, however, that this version also excludes two songs that are on Rank.)

1. The Queen Is Dead
2. Panic
3. Vicar In A Tutu
4. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Note

Known commonly as "Thank Your Lucky Stars," this is arguably the finest Smiths bootleg in existence. Besides its superiority of sound, it boasts a stunningly unique arrangement of setlist opener Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, as well as a live rendition of the instrumental b-side "Money Changes Everything." Furthermore, this is the show during which Morrissey lost his cool and interrupted "I Know It's Over" to scream and curse at the security guards for manhandling the audience.

1. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
2. Still Ill
3. I Want The One I Can't Have

Note

Obvious historic relevance is the main factor behind the acquisition of this bootleg. His "farewell" show to Smiths fans, this concert occurred roughly two years after the final Smiths gig and over two more years before the first show of the Kill Uncle tour. Despite the very poor sound quality, the show is not without its charm; Morrissey was in top form and the overwhelming exuberance from the audience was obviously feeding his fire. Of particular note is the line-up; 3/4ths of The Smiths plus former stand-in Smith Craig Gannon; additionally, Sweet and Tender Hooligan is played live for the first and only time.

Although this bootleg is audience-sourced, it clearly was recorded professioanlly as well; "Sister I'm a Poet" was included in the Hulmerist documentary and the audio is easily found in online rarities compilations. Furthermore, the aforementioned "Sweet and Tender Hooligan" was released in fully mastered mixing desk glory as a b-side to Interesting Drug.
