This note is dedicated to all who got a chance to read notes posted on 10/05..specially for Steven Kepler and Brian Boshart.
I am a 32 yr old female (born female) Married for 5 months to the most gorgeous (and rather masculine) male specimen in miles.I am not a Morrissey fan, at least I was not until the evening of October 5th. I have been tortured with Morrissey music for the last 2 & 1/2 years, never before having heard of such personality as "Moz" like some devoted fans decide to call him. I had seen him in Az before and for some reason I still did not like his music. he was too depressing for my taste. Then one day I decided to stop and listen.. and then there was light. I liked the lyrics and as I heard some more of it, I became familiar with the music and started to actually enjoy it..mostly because of the gentleness and love that was heard thorough the music and in his voice as well as the closeness I sensed within his fans.. something I could not explain.
I am the wife of the Morrissey fan you decided to pick on for being nice enough to give an insight of what the concert was like on the night of the 5th. I am the one who got to see Moz fall due to the deep desire of some to get to touch him no matter what the consequence. to be honest with you..I would have tried to touch him too..he was so absolutely happy and energetic it got the crowds going, I have never seen him like that, it really made me see a different Morrissey, one that I liked and respected.
I want to tell you that I wish you had been where we were, I could see it all. his hair was nice and short and he definately looked thinner and in shape. there was also something about his face..I wondered if he had something done to it because he looked soo young! one feature I really liked was his tasteful attire, so open to arise discussion among the repressed.
Congratulations to the ones who live "Moz" gentle and kind, it truly takes strength, and to the ones who call themselves Morrissey fans and do not live him..try it sometime it is so worth it!
P.S. to those who seemed concerned about our parents feelings on our wedding..we had a beautiful religious ceremony. and yes our parents were there thank you.

I just got back from the concert.....
It was awesome.
I was in the fifth row.
Right at the begining, half the theatre ran up front and I felt like I was in a club in L.A.

He sang great, danced around as usual.

During the encore, a mob of people jumped up on stage and grabbed at him.
Can you say "goodnight"? yes he walked off and the guitarist stopped, motioned to everyone to stop and waved goodbye.

Kinda sucked it finished like that but oh well.

Also...I caught his shirt when he threw it out to the crowd.
Yes...no joke.
The blue one he was wearing....it says
"West Ham Boys Club"
It's all sweaty and sitting on my chair.

Anyone want it?

Lilia-
I am really happy that you have begun to like Morrissey...he is a very special person in many peoples lives...including mine. I myself have been a fan for a very long time and I think that his music has helped me get through some very tough times growing up...I can't even begin to explain what he means to me and what he means to so many other people. Morrissey will be a part of my life forever! I bet your husband is happy now. :)

I thought he was going to play 'new songs'. Does this just mean that he'll play songs that he's never played live before, or will real new songs be introduced as the tour progresses?

Santa Barbara - Thu, Oct 07, 1999 at 01:05:14 (PDT) | #14

Santa Barbara set (no new songs):
1) Glamorous Glue
2) Billy Budd
3) Reader Meets Author
4) Is it Really so Strange? (!)
5) Hairdresser on Fire
6) Found (Moz introduced it as 'Found')
7) Sunny
8) Speedway
9) The Edges are no Longer Parallel
10) Now my Heart is Full
11) Meat is Murder (!!)
12) Alma Matters
13) Trouble Loves me
14) Tomorrow
15) Teachers are Afraid of the Family
16) Break up the Family
Encore) Last Night I Dreampt that Somebody Loved Me

Erik's take: The show was over 80 minutes long. The auditorium's sound system was pretty bad, but Moz was in a great mood and seemed genuinely touched by the love generating from the audience. He dedicated 'Break up the Family' to the crowd, stressing the "I want to be with all my friends tonight" line. Very touching.
People rushed up to the stage 10 minutes before the show and the ushers, who were mostly college kids, did nothing to stop them. The mosh pit in front got crammed and several people, myself included, moved closer and wound up viewing the concert from atop the plush seats. Hard to dance, but easy to see all that was happening.

Los Angeles - Thu, Oct 07, 1999 at 01:19:35 (PDT) | #15

Did anyone else notice how bad the sound was there?? He had such a great set list and it is a shame they had so many difficulties. And whoever the people were who ran up during Last night I dreamt and stopped the song and the show, I hope you never walk again. You could have waited for the musical outro portion of the song (a song that not even the smiths had ever performed live) before you ran up there. Thanks for ruining what was quickly becoming the highlight of the evening. Apart for Morrisseys voice during Meat is Murder.
Oh well!See you kids in Vegas.

When I said under song 6) 'Found' (Morrissey introduced as 'Found') I of course meant to say the song was 'Lost' but was introduced as 'Found.'

Also, can someone who bought one of the posters send in a scan. I was curious about what the text said. . .

Long time listener, first time seeing Morrissey live. Great show, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had a problem with the sound. I was afraid I was just getting old :-) It was bad during El Vez and you'd think the sound boys would knock out the kinks during the opening act. But no such luck. The guitars in particular sounded awful, but Morrissey's energy made up for it all! I suppose it would be out of character for him to kick the asses of all those who charged the stage during the encore, but you can only hope.

PS: Has anyone had good luck with sound at the Arlington? Just curious since this was my first time in the theatre.

Lilia -

I liked reading your post it sounds pretty cool the way you and your husband (Dennis?)get along so well and have so much in common, not to mention he sounds totally beautiful (a perfect male specimen that is also an avid Moz fan - is it true?). But I want to share a quick thought with you - try not take things you read here so literally. There are so many people on this site (thanks David T.!) that sometimes random messages appear that are worthless and meaningless. You and your husband should not waste your time defending anything written on this site - use it for your admiration of Morrissey. If something on here, is insulting - laugh it off. Think... what idiots would get so worked up over a post? It takes about two seconds to type our responses, (thus all the type-o's)and then they are out there! None the less, cheers to you for sharing your beautiful story and best regards to you both :)

Could someone please tell me about the band? I really do care a whole lot about the color of Moz's shirt and his hairline and all, but I would really like to know if Johnny is still playing bass and how the new drummer sounds. Did they alter any of the Smiths/older Moz songs at all like they did with the Kill Uncle material on the first tour?
much appreciated

I agree with Brett when Moz is on stage you guys should start yelling Johnny Johnny Johnny!!! The entire show!!!!
With signs and everything and visa versa when Johnny is on stage. You never know, it just might take one or 2 artists back stage to look at Johnny and say "What the hey man get out there and join him for a song." Make it happen kids!

The show rocked Moz was in his best form that i had ever seen him in. Total kick azz show GARY DAY is BACK!!!!! I cant believe it!!! the lot of us that knew him screamed his name at the top our lungs he gave us a thumbs up and a wink!!!! Poor Boz and Alain they were pretty pissed of when the stupid kidz trashed the stage and took Moz down!!! We could here Alain screaming at them "get the f**k off the stage!" we were realy amazed that this mad them so mad. Alain constantly durring the show motioned to his ears about the BAD SOUND!!! Anyway you cant have it all can you LOS ANGELES on to LAS VEGAS BABY and onto COCHELLA!! The SB show was unbelievable! When the show started I ran up to the front of the stage, and so did everyone else (I got pretty smashed). Morrissey looked really good, he had lost weight in his face and he had mini quiff (Thankgoodness he doesn't have that really short hair cut anymore) I touched his sexy hand and took tons of pictures. Regarding the banana Moz had, my friend got it. She said I could have it but it had bruises and it was beginning to rot so we're just gonna take pictures w/ it instead.

My other friend jumped on stage and kissed Morrissey's Hand. (She was the little one with the blonde hair) When she had told me she was planning on doing that, I didn't think she'd be able to make it on stage, but she did.

After a while the crowd was pushing so hard that I thought I was going to pass out, so I made my way over to the side of the stage and sat by the speakers ( As a result, I'm still having trouble hearing) The bouncers kept telling me to get down off the side of the stage, but I refused to

Jae <[email protected]>
- Thu, Oct 07, 1999 at 17:19:23 (PDT) | #37

they cut off the rest of my comment. So I'll continue it here, I would've jumped on stage but there was a bouncer right next to me, blocking my way. I touched Morrissey's hand for the second time that night and you should've seen the look on his face, it was so adorable and loving..I wonder what he was thinking..

If anyone video taped the SB show, please let me know, I must have a copy! I can't wait for the Coachella festival but I don't think we should chant "Johnny!" Moz might get insulted. We should just chant "Smiths!" Bye for now.

Last night rocked-big time-morrissey was awesome-the band was awesome-the songs they played were awesome. The pit was crazy-and i just want to give props to myself who i might add was practically the only girl left standing in the very front-too bad all you other girls couln't hang-and to all the greasy, sweaty guys out there-thanks for bruising me all night long.

If I were you I would chant "Morrissey" louder than ever.
He really deserve it and what's more important, HE doesn't need anyone! It would be like an insult to Boz & Co (even to Moz) to chant Marr's name.
Remember what he said: "Not even on the darkest nights".

He just walked right on stage! How dare he just walk right on stage like that. How could he just walk on stage, doesn't he know I've known his stillness so many times, but aliveness, oh no this was new. Face no longer fixed in black and white nor color, voice no longer stuck to a rubber ring, and I no longer standing. . . . . . . . . . . . My only mistake is I'm hoping. Would they have written an encore on the set list?
If your answer is no, the show was cut shorter than previously thought. Last night I dreamt was on the set list (my determined freind pestered until he got it), and there it was on the very bottom. That is not to say they couldn't have just written it because they knew they were going to do it (as an encore), but it left me thinking. How bout it guys, whaddya think?

For any Morrissey fans who will not be
attending any shows for whatever reason,
you just dont know what you'll be missing.
For a show like this, I'd fly halfway around
the world for it. I've seen Moz three times,
and this is, whithout a doubt, the best
performance I've ever seen from him. The
setlist was just perfect. And the t-shirt
with the word "Mexico" printed on the back
was pretty cool too.

THANK'S MORRISSEY!!!
YOU ARE TRULY THE BEST IN THE BUSSINESS.

did y'all catch his subtle lyric changes during the show? i remember during 'hairdresser on fire' he sang "and you're just to busy / to kiss me" and during 'boy racer' he sang "i'm just too good looking / i'm just too good looking"...the sound wasn't that great, but just watching him move up there is enough.

I'd just like to concur with the general sentiment with those lucky enough to see the S.B. show that it was F--king INCREDIBLE!!! Even better than his much lauded fall 1998 Tulsa show. But I must say that the Smoking Popes were at least 1,000 times better than El Vez. I can't believe more people haven't commented on him. He was just an annoying Vegas lounge act preaching his politics to us through the Elvis guise. I will say this, though- he had some pretty cool dance moves. But, I digress. Morrissey was just amazing, the set list was great. As long as he was playing Smiths stuff, Well I Wonder would have probably put me in a coma, but I was still happy to have the songs he chose.

Hey guys! I loved the Arlington concert! I wish he would play a San Diego venue! I did stay till the busses left... but Moz did leave a long time ago! I got pics of Alain and Boz... This was my very first Moz concert... and I hope to see many more.. but for now... I can certianly die happy! He is great! Everything I imagined he would be. He certianly looks like he loves his job! Now if only I could write him a letter.. and he could actually read it! That would be SWEET! Any info please email me okay? The fans were the best too! Some of the nicest people I have ever met!

I would have to say that the concert was perhaps the most exciting event that I have ever been to Moz and all. By the end of the show, I was up in the first row but for the start I had to deal with @#!!!ty mezaneene seats and an openening act that made me feel uneazy way up there in the balcony. My two pals and I waited for the right moment to make our move to the floor. Once the openning music began the crowd on the floor made a made rush to the stage. This caught the attention of the floor gaurds and as they were looking towards the stage, my friends and I walked passed them without a "tickets mates" or anything. We began thinking that it was too good to be true and that at any moment, some security personel would tap us on the shoulder and escort us out. But it did not happen and we stayed the entire set no worse than 4 people out from the stage. So thats my story on the night of October 6th, 1999.

Konrad

P.S. Those who made a rush to the stage durring the first song of the encore, bad timing.

Santa Barbara was just not big enough to hold all of us Moz fans!!!!!!!!I wish the concert was longer and I was pissed that some people have to get crazy and ruin it for the rest of us.
