Shame, I met them at a Moz convention (early 1990s) and they were funny & very decent guys. RIP

Morrissey on Bowie: "fanatically homosexual" in The Times

Didn't Moz say Bowie covering "I know it's gonna..." was 1 of the highlight of M's career? Then it all seemed to go sour during his support slot. Of late Moz referring to him as 'David Showie' (not the wittiest of M's put-downs). Hope M refers to all this, and much more, in his autobiography...

    Stephen Fry

That's a great post. Thanks for sharing. I can imagine those two, sat on a chaise longue, discussing Miss Wilde.

This is England '86 features "Never Had No One Ever"

Murder & Desire makes a valid point. Outside of London, Manchester & Liverpool, it can take a hell of a long time for other cities/towns to catch onto happening trends. Believe me, in my home town the mullet and shell suits are only just being worn:lbf: I can remember Manchester's Perry Boys...

Please don't cry for the ghost in the storm at night

Al Jolson originally sang the "Sonny Boy" refrain. As for the "mother you just never knew," Moz wrote at the time "it comes from a relationship I had that didn't really involve romance." I just think it's an early example of Mozzers delicious entwining of fact/fiction/imagination.

Please don't cry for the ghost in the storm at night

Clarksville, you write much sense. The refrain at the end of the song, 'climb upon my knee my sonny boy,' was, I believe, the harbinger for the child abuse accusations. I think it was very brave of Moz to release Ambitious Outsiders in light of all this. Suffer Little Children is possibly one...

    Wilde Letters

Ronnie was encouraged to paint by his prison psychiatrist as a form of creative catharticism. Given that, surprising the paintings are awash with bright and vibrant colours. C'mon, what does Mr Hawking know about nuclear physics:lbf::lbf:

Please don't cry for the ghost in the storm at night

It would be interesting to know which of the Smiths' lyrics were written, prior to JM knocking on Mozzers door. I like to think some of them hung around on dusty notepads for many years, just waitng for a melody and a handsome band.

Please don't cry for the ghost in the storm at night

It's just a paternal & protective thing in my opinion. It is a beautiful song and so sad some tabloid scum chose to portray it as alluring to paedophilia. Moz may not have helped himself over the years over certain years, but the knives have been out for him since 1983. No wonder he has...

    Wilde Letters

Yeah, guess Ronnie's romantic advances took the form "sleep with me or I will smash yer face!" His paintings have sold in excess of £15k and frankly, they look like Stephen Hawking had painted them.

    Wilde Letters

Wilde invites the young man to "tea and dinner." Hmmm, could this be a euphemism. I seem to remember Ms Riley presented Moz with an expensive first edition of 'De Profundis.' Can't really see Moz handing over his royalties, athough if Ronnie Kray's love letters appeared on eBay....... Moz &...
