Do you think Morrissey would like Neutral Milk Hotel?

I was just listening to "Aeroplane Over the Sea" for the first time in awhile and remembered how amazing it was. Moz seems to have taken interest in a lot of contemporary bands that are mediocre. I feel he might well like NMH 10 years after the fact given how incredible the music is, and considering Jeff Mangum's lyrical wit at times rivals Morrissey's own.

Not too sure what he would think of them, but "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" is most definitely an essential music selection. What is J. Magnum doing now anyways?

Well I know he was in a mental hospital at some point after that album was released. I remember a Neutral Milk Hotel related project called The Circulatory System playing about 3 or 4 years ago, but I don't think Magnum was in the band.

Did you ever hear that 4 song NMH EP that was released after "Aeroplane Over the Sea?"

Also I must say, while I am a long time, huge fan of Superchunk, I think "Aeroplane...." might very well be the best thing Merge ever released.

Although I am not a fan of Neutral Milk Hotel, you could be right. There are some great artists signed to Merge though -- Radar Bros., Richard Buckner, Matt Elliot, Lambchop, and The Clientelle; too bad the latest American Music Club (signed to Merge last year) release was such a disappointment.

Oh hell, I forgot The Magnetic Field's "69 Love Songs Vol.1"...albeit I am not a fan of them either.

Cod...I never liked AMC, but some Portastatic is excellent.

I must contend, I believe Superchunk is far superior to the bands you've mentioned that I'm familiar with, and I suspect they are also better than the ones I've not heard. This opinion, however, may be a product of my early-mid 90s indie rock purism.
