wow this is good stuff. ive had these outtakes and demos for years but they are scattered all over and unorganized. great to see them in order here. i hope to make a data disc of these so i can have them all cataloged properly.

i was wondering if by chance anyone could upload the 'Under The Moonlight-R.E.M. Live At Athens Musical Festival 11/25/88 '
i tried to get it once before but the links were all dead and now i dont see any of sign if it in this thread.

While I already have all of that, I can't thank skylarker enough for the organization.

Some stuff missing here is the same I've been looking for: the demos in "Chronic Murmurings" and "Finest Worksongs". Only, I've been collecting all of this in FLAC.

Doesn't anyone have those two in FLAC, SHN or any lossless (and the Up demos as well)?

Okay, first off, I want to say, "wow", what an undertaking. I am impressed with your persistence and thoroughness.

Now, secondly, I don't want to come off as selfish or ungrateful, but I have a question about a source of one of the tracks. Your "Supernatural Superserious" (Live from Athens), was it sourced from the video? If not, it is most likely a transcode. When this album was released, it was in the time of DRM protected files and this song was a pre-order only. If someone pre-ordered it, they would only have it in 128kbps, and would not be able to share it, unless they transcoded it.

Again, I am very thankful for your work, but I have been trying to hunt down this track for awhile. If it is taken from the Athens video, that would be superb.

I'm lovin' "The sidewinder sleeps tonite" now. It's a wonderful song.
I dont know if you know guys, but this miost misheard song of the world.
The chorus is "call me when you try to wake her up" and most people understand it as "calling Jamaica". Pretty funny, hm?

Calling Jamaica? Before I knew what Stipe was singing I never once thought it was "calling Jamaica" and have never known of anyone (besides you now) who thought that is what he sings.
Where did you find out that that is what most people think he is singing?

According to Wikipedia:
The lyrics are famously easy to mishear. A 2010 survey found that the chorus line "Call me when you try to wake her" was the most misheard lyric in Britain, beating Purple Haze into second place. The most common mishearing of the chorus line is "Calling Jamaica". What is perceived to be an audible laugh by Michael Stipe can be heard at 2:33 of the track on the "Best Of" and "Automatic for the People" CD's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sidewinder_Sleeps_Tonite#cite_note-1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sidewinder_Sleeps_Tonite

Then, if you check the references out you'll find the orginal survey right here:

So, I think you should read more.... before saying some things...

I finally grabbed a video of the show and ripped it to 320, thought you could add it to the collection:

Supernatural Superserious (Live from Athens) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D4NIUJ60 Cheers! (and thanks again for all of your hard work!)

i return but empty handed :( many thanks for all who are sharing there old & new r.e.m. material. makes interesting listening! :guitar:
quick questions:- is there 2 versions of the hib-tone radio free europe single? i know about the dub being on the cassette but was there 2 mixes of the hib-tone? & sitting still hib-tone, was 2 mixes of that?

Yes, there are difference mixes for the Hib-Tone single: Mitch Easter's and Johnny Hibbert's. After the single was recorded in 1981 (both Radio Free Europe and Sitting Still), Mitch Easter handled the original mixes of both songs. Shortly thereafter, Johnny Hibbert (as founder and owner of Hib-Tone Records), thought the mixing could've been handled better and he undertook a separate mix of each song. The Hibbert mixes are contained on all vinyl pressings of the Hib-Tone 7" single. The band hated the Hibbert mixes, and made no secret of the fact (Peter Buck famously broke a copy into small pieces and tacked them up on his wall). Fast forward to Murmur - RFE was of course completely re-recorded, but the original recording of Sitting Still was used, but remixed (again) by Easter and Don Dixon. Fast forward even further to Eponymous - the Hib-Tone version of RFE featured on that compilation is the very original Mitch Easter mix from 1981. And a few years ago, when the 2-disc CD compilation of the IRS material was released, the liner notes state that the Hib-Tone versions of RFE and Sitting Still contained on it are the Hibbert mixes, but I have my doubts (they sound like the Easter mixes to me). I'm pretty certain of all the info, but if anybody else knows differently please post!

p.s. Oh, and the "dub" version of RFE was handled by Mitch Easter (no surprise).

Thanks a lot for that info, remfansince1982! I wasn't aware that there were two "original hib-tone" versions.

Let me see if I understand it then:
Originally released by Hib-Tone as a single: Hibbert
Eponymous: Easter
And I Feel Fine: allegedly Hibbert, but it sounds exactly the same as Easter's (the one in Eponymous).

Now, I want to hear Hibbert's version. I guess I only know Easter's. Could I please have a FLAC of that, anyone? :)
