Just wondering if anybody visited Fab Cafe last night to see if Andy Rourke was DJ-ing there. I was thinking it could become a Star & Garter spin-off night for us all...

Yep, my Cockney comrade and I were in there. Did you go?

There was this really embarrassing bloke who insisted on going up to Andy Rourke every 2 minutes. I told Ruffian to sit down, but he was like a hapless puppy.

I'm sure Ruffian will report all the details on how he accosted Mani in the bogs, too.

Nope, didn't quite make it due to circumstances entirely within my control. Was it the, er, usual Fab crowd, then?: i.e. lone middle-aged men, Sci-Fi geeks, underaged consumers of alcoholic beverages, hen parties, pantomime goths... or was it more interesting?

I made that observation too.. you forget the office workers and lesbians though. quite strange mix really.

I'd be up for a return.

Heh heh. Funnily enough, I did mention to Ruffian that there does tend to be a certain clientele frequenting Fab Cafe, not too unlike your observations mentioned below. Although, there didn't seem to be as many ginger-haired people in there as usual. Not that there is anything wrong with having ginger hair, of course...

I wouldn't wish it on anyone Bluebles. It's a terrible affliction. Erm...so I'm told.

Yes, the men in suits dancing to the Clash and the Jam always amuse me. And there are unconvincing punks too. Actually, the last time I went I found myself dancing to "The First of the Gang to Die" with an unconvincing punk. I knew then it was time to make my excuses and leave...

Never been ginger, in any sense of the term. The Fab regulars are probably complaining about the nerdy Morrissey fan who have started hanging out there...

Hey Bluenose. Your right about the ginners: The last time I was in FAB in Manchester I was with old 'orange-balls' Aly.
FAB in Leeds is full of students and aging goths and rockers playing air guitar to Bon Jovi.

It is shit.

Re: Fab Cafe and gingers

Just looking through the mainpage of this site, someone else thinks the managers of FAB are wankers, but aside from that my hair is light brown and as for having orange balls you need to publish that photo from Prague.

Will do Woody. I'll try and get it scanned in next week.

Sorry to interject boys.. but I had to laugh at a recent discussion my mates were having about a theatrical rock band called 'David Devant & His Spirit Wife'.. I am sure I heard once that the band had a song called 'Ginger'.. and woudl grate a carrot on the head of red headed people in the mosh.. I can neither confirm nor deny this rumour.. but I'd have paid admission just to see that bizarre spectacle (not that I have absoluitely anything against flame haired people).

It was a single. I think I've got it. Oops. I remember Chris knobhead Evans playing it when he did the Radio 1 breakfast show. Oo, the irony. I first came across D Devant & His Spiritual Life when they were house band on the sitcom "Asylum", featuring pre-Big Train Simon Pegg. I think it only went out on satellite. I still have a nostalgic liking for their Cluedo inspired "Ballroom" song. Well, it was funny the first time I heard it.

Try not to be TOO politically-correct, Ruff.
There's nothing wrong with hating gingers. I do. They're tossers.
Every day I wake up and thank God I'm not one.

You are the indie guru Magic.. as McCann is To Punk.. as I am to h*Rock! haha Obscurity really is your forte!

I have the single.. that goes.. 'alans mum and Dad, they brought him up quite well. They taught him how to read and write, and how to speak and spell!'.. 'THIS Is For Real'.. was that a classic or what.

Never heard Ginger though.

Heard they were great live.. Another drinking Catpain of mine.. Phil (Hugh Grant lookalike) had a soft spot for them and saw them countless times..

"Minge hair mafia"

So what do they enforce then? Must it be nice and trim or in true German porno style (so I'm told) must it be as overgrown as Thora Hird's garden?

Are you requesting some kind of 'What's On' guide to the pubs and clubs of our Second City, Ruff? Or do you have something sinister regarding beaver fashion lurking behind your not-so-innocent mind?

My mate Rick was actually the fan who raved about them and bought the album and stuff. He dragged me along in his wake. But then again, he raved about Sleeper too. I never saw them live. Coincidenally (or maybe not), Rick is also ginger. I suspect some kind of Quatermass primeval genetic programming going on. (that might be an obscure reference)
