like March entering like a lion and exiting like a lamb, Rufus entered wearing a bolero outfit and leaves wearing a gondolier outfit.

at least that's what he referred to his green bullfighting outfit with a french beatnik black and white striped shirt.

"if people saw me in an allyway, they wouldn't be threated! 'i don't think the guy in the bolero outfit is going to beat us up!"

i didn't get to see much of it when he was sitting behind the piano. there is a rule at most shows that tall guys wearing baseball caps are going to stand near the stage and shift back and forth to cover up the view you struggled for 3 minutes to find. however, he eventually emerged to play acoustic guitar while delivering his nasal but ear-friendly vocals all the while.

in between the verbal antics, we were entertained with a canon that mostly came from "Want 1". there were a couple of songs off of "Want II" that he previewed for us, but i personally found the stories behind them much more fun than the songs themselves. it didn't make me yearn for a new album, but the show itself brought new joy to the old songs. i really wanted him to do "Grey Gardens", but we did get "Greek Song" and "Poses" in it's place.

The person who went with me told me that the show was totally worth it and even made the joke when we saw his tourbus that we should stand outside of it and stalk him. i thought about it because it sounded like a good idea, but I didn't have an angle. I wished at that moment i still had braces and could have pulled my hair back in pigtails just so i would look as non-threatening and pitiful as possible. There is no way of telling how he would have taken it and if he would have just sprinted into the bus, even though every second he was on stage, he was obviously eating up the attention we were giving him and he kindly repaid with 2 encores.

Thanks for posting the review, Suzanne! It sounds like he put on a great show, as usual!

Damn! Now I REALLY want to see him perform in April here in Toronto. I'd love to hear some of the new songs from Want II.

OOOH!!! Lucky you! I'm dying to hear Greek Song!

Thanks for the review Suzanne. Sounds like a great show. I can hardly wait until April 16th.

Thanks for that Suzanne, I can't wait to see him!
