I was born here and I was raised here and I took some stick here.
Article about the planning of the ghetto where I was raised.

In Eskilstuna-Kuriren on April 6, 1960, it became clear that road safety was high on the agenda when urban planner architect Sven Tynelius presented his proposal to the building committee. The house bodies, consisting of three, seven and eleven-storey houses were grouped around park and play areas.
"One of the main ideas in the proposal is that the children should be able to move between the housing groups and to the youth center's youth center by utilizing the central park and thus avoiding any traffic street".

Construction was expected to begin next year and to further increase road safety, pedestrian and bicycle routes were planned to the nearby school and sports area. The 4,000 future Årby residents could also expect 1460 parking spaces.
What, then, meant the new district, located at the entrance of the then national highway 6 for traffic situation? The plan for Torshällavägen was detailed.
"In the future, Torshällavägen will need to be widened from 22 meters to at least 31 meters. A local street with a width of 10 meters is proposed north of Torshällavägen."
Otherwise, the whole thing was considered difficult and various solutions were discussed.
"In a first development, the need for space may be quite limited, but in the longer term one should expect a planar crossing of considerable dimensions. ".
Newspaper article from April 6 1960. 8 years later I was born and fortunate enough to have my own room. My dad apparently kept on telling the midwives that his son would have his very own room.
Not a ghetto then and in fact the envy of everyone in Eskilstuna and a great place to live until heavy immigration ruined it and turned it into a ghetto and today it is considered a no go-zone where the reporters from the same paper got attacked with stones when visiting the area a few years ago.
They will build more houses in the area in the coming years to make it more attractive again and here are some pics showing the changes.
Årby in 1983 when I went to Manchester for the first time. Notice the green tarpaulin indoor football court (top right) where we played and watched some games in winter time.
My school (bottom right) with the visible culvert you walked to and from the school. We lived on the 5h floor of the first 7 storey house on the right side of the area.
The three houses at the front are the 11 storey houses with the shops and banks and everything else in front of them.
Lower grade school( bottom left of center).
I found a photo from that time of my best mate and some other school mates in my storage last week.
The architects had big plans for art installations like these awful things:
Chopped off dickheads by tha gallows, welcome to Årby. Your kids can safely play here.
And we did.
One playground today inspired by he universe:
The chopped off dickhead by the gallows artist Sivert Lindblom:
"Sculpture landscape in Årby". More like Joy Division meets Stanley Kubrick on drugs with Bowie lurking with a needle in his arm.
