This discography lists official UK and US pressings only, with UK and US chart positions.
If any discrepancies appear above please let us know.

My main takeaway from this is that Morrissey released some truly terrible and downright bizarre singles in the early 2000s and they still managed to chart with respectable positions! 😮 Goes to show that Morrissey really could do no wrong back then before he decided to throw all the goodwill away.

anyone who thinks M did this list off the top of his head needs a doctor, this list is probably sent out by the british phonographis industry at the end of the year to all artists who have had chart placings.

at first glance it looked like tonights setlist for his 12 hour show with 6 encores, then i woke up.

There is a Light, that Brendan just quoted, is their biggest song today, nearly 500 million streams, but was a hit nowhere at the time…

 two things:
1. Love how they wrote the headline twice but in different spellings, just as if this list did exist for a long time as a word document and got inserted on the page now:

These chart positions are overall not even that great... so why keep making them a focal point? "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" - a brilliant song - only reached #47 (proof that the charts are meaningless). I'm starting to wonder, does he think his music is only as good as the charts say?
Yes, amazing song, but the chart position was because everyone already had the A-side from the album, and the B-sides were just live tracks. It was the first Smiths single to feel ever so slightly pointless, given the torrent of endless creativity we'd been used to up to that point!

Can we attribute a sharp decline in Morrissey with Central? Back in the day of true-to-you each update, no matter how rare an update, at least it was worthy of our attention, interesting and kept up engaged, somehow, until the next update. Central on the other hand just seems... unnecessary. Gone is the mystery around Morrissey (which probably served better when it came to securing a record deal than not), and instead we have the odd fan made Youtube video, photoshopped images and questionable facts.

What Central should be:
Behind the scenes content such as seeing the band on the road, rehearsals, interviews (band and Morrissey, fans), apologies and explanations for cancelled tours/shows. You don't have to be a whizz at creating this stuff. Hell, it can just be someone recording it on their phone. If you were to remove all the useless and silly entries on Central, you'd probably have about 4-5 posts.

Morrissey’s behemoth talent and incomparable dexterity in his artistry are what have propelled him to the incredible heights he has achieved. The quality of output in his canon, which speaks for itself and always has, is the reflection of those heights.

His creativity, his courage, and his singular vision have shown that his ability to tower over his peers and over other industry participants was never fluke - he still towers, and he will always tower.

When Rick Astley did his karaoke night at Glastonbury, Morrissey loomed so large over that open field that he might as well have filled up the entire night sky. Even the very fact of the reality of this seemed entirely lost on people.

This list of chart positions is a simple and great reminder, and a perfect and succinct snapshot of his most popular commercial highs - and still there’s more. He maintains every right to post what he wants on his own website, and clearly this wasn’t posted for the purpose trying to placate or amuse or pander to anyone here. A lot of the responses are eye-watering.

He is a remarkable person. Who deserves to be treasured, and appreciated, and loved.

I despair at the mentality and at the comments on this thread.
You...are insane. Pure and simple.

It wasn't a catchy hit single, tbh. A great and outstanding song, but no 80s chart fodder.
Agreed, it should have never been a single, great song but it ruined their run of 'hits'. And live songs on the b-side was always a bit disappointing. No reason to buy unless you were a diehard.

Also just to be picky, Cosmic Dancer and Rebels Without Applause, never charted.

Yes, but this would require Morrissey to take responsibility for things. So, that’s that.

In 2004, True To You magazine put together a discography and videography list up to that year. Nearly 20 years ago. half the 40 being celebrated.

I suppose it gives guidance to a newcomer like me - ideas about what might be worth listening to next. As you will all appreciate, listening to as many songs as possible won't work as I am discovering sounds I love and have to hear them again and again before I move on. Seriously, sometimes I feel like I am discovering music from heaven. However many of my favourites have not been singles. I possess no Morrissey/Smiths music other than "Miserable Now" on an 80s compilation CD. Just think what a Christmas I'll have if I buy some Morrissey CDs....and a quality listening system! I don't think I still have a turntable anywhere........The biggest "just miss" of my life is that The Smiths performed at my university the year after graduation!

I like everyone here have no idea why this was posted, but I am glad it was. I have been meaning to create a list like this for ages but have never got round to it.

You should proof it, some of these are whoppers! Maybe they mistook the US for Poland?
