Celebrity Big Brother

Whats happening? Is it turning into a KKK house or something? I never watch but theres been 10,000 complaints about racism and theres going to be questions asked in the Commons!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6268401.stm

I mean thats a lot of people. Could an "avid" viewer please elaborate.

I think I can summarise it....

Three dull uninteresting people have been bullying another dull uninteresting person, by displaying their ignorance of her culture or background. A lot of dull uninteresting people have watched this on the television and screamed "racism"....I would perhaps have more sympathy if they screamed "tedium"

It's even been in our news and we're a country ... far far away

f***ing endemol must be pissing themselves laughing with all the publicity.

I realise the Bollywood bird is having to put up with Jade Goody, some tart shagging Edward Sheringham (Brian Clough: Your name is Edward soI will call you Edward!) and the wobbly one from S Club 7 taking the piss. But is it racist?

Cos thats not very nice to be broadcast on mianstream TV

Brian: "What does your mother call you, son?"
Teddy: "Err... Edward, boss."
Brian: "Then f*** off out my office, Edward, and I'll call you what your mother does."

A great man.

Anyway, watch Sunday's episode. C4 must have came up with the idea of them asking questions purely and simply to show how utterly stupid these people are.

Jade Goody " How come right, don't Eskimo's turn into ice cubes" Come on she's just ignorant not racist.

There has been no racism in the house. It's as simple as that. 10,000 complaints? They are just the PC massive.

10,000 complaints from the millions of idiots watching (me included) does not mean there is racism occurring. It is quite infuriating hearing all these cries of racism, when the real issue that should be discussed is that of bullying (which I suppose could be argued is a form of it).

And the person that suggested the Goody's are working class, is giving the working class a bad name...even if it is a dying breed. The Goody's are an underclass, not totally dissimilar to that of chavs.

It's not something many of us can or ever will fathom, but I often wonder (to no avail) if the ever-growing underclass in the UK is a result of Blair or Thatcher’s government. How long do the political decisions of those before continue into the future?

Thatcher’s government! Thatcher’s government! Thatcher’s government!

Hmmm I don't think it is the PC massive.

I think there are a lot of people re: the number of complaints (10,000) and Keith Vaz's Early Day Motion that are of a second or third generation Asian background who are quite upset at some of the insults/ ribbing whatever you deign to call it.

Stuff like Indians are thin cos they undercook their food. Well I find it quite offensive, so I think a person of Indian descent will and all.

I just hope Morrissey doesn't write Bollywood Bother in homage to the shenanaigans.... it must be wrong, three against one!

i missed this but i've seen the news, it would seem yet again the not so brightest members of the 'house' are involved!

Think it was said half-jokingly.

But the half-serious side is due to Thatcher the milk snatcher ripping the hearts out of communities and promoting the idea that the individual is more important than society.

Whichever way your political viewpoints lie this unfortunately led to divisiveness, selfishness and greed. Which in turn led to envy.

Yeah, because before Thatcher the world was full of people all holding hands and singing together songs of love and the Unions and no one earnt more money than anyone else...

The individual is more important than society, as it's individuals who make up society. If each individual does what is best for themselves then that leads to a greater society as production icrease, more money drips down the economy etc etc and everyone ends up better off.

I don't think you can point to Jade and say "If only that bitch Thatcher had allowed her to have free milk at school she'd have a masters degree in philosophy and have dinner parties with friends discussing the latest goings on in Westminster." She's f***ing thick because she's stupid, which most people are.

I agree with what everyone has said, that it's not racism, it's ignorance. I haven't really been watching it but what I saw on the news was Danielle was talking about Shilpa and asked Jo whether they eat with their hands in India or summat. As for Jade's mum, their complaint with her was that she couldn't pronounce Shilpa's name, well for gods sake, this was the woman who was in the diary room and they said "jackie, blahdy blah the housemates were faced with dilemma" and she said "what's a dimela?". I mean, I think Shilpa is quite annoying, regardless of her race (well they all are really) and it's just girls being bitchy and cliquey...if she wasn't Indian then no one would have complained about the 'bullying', coz it happens all the time in Big Brother!

Surely all that calcium would have improved her brain power???

As for the individual being more important than society, only UKIP members and New Labour think like that!
The poor will remain poor (with the exception of Ms Goody and that mike Carroll), the rich will remain rich so I can't see how your stipulation that we all end up better off actually happens. Ask people a few miles from me if there life is better from Thatcher's policies;

Huge drugs problems, poverty which is akin to third world countires in some areas, illiteracy rates higher than the rest of Europe...

All due to her ripping out industry from industrial (aka labour supporting) heartlands and not putting into place education or training programs for the people she summarily decided were of no use to her or the economy

Yes Thatcher did f-ing wonders. She did so much good that even David Cameron can barely mention her name anymore.

"when you see a crowd, i see a flock"

Thats cos its sheep we're up against...

From a discussion I had with The Goat ages ago. Most of it's general enough to fit.

Look at the state of Britain in the 70's - An economy that was a joke, Unions pretty much running the country, a government that couldn't wipe it's backside without permission from the Union. An international joke!

Do you seriously think the old heavy industries would have survived that much longer even without Thatcher? They weren't closed out of spite, they were closed because they were losing huge amounts of money! And with no hope of a turn around. Frankly I don't want my taxes going on the government spending money keeping the British steel and coal industries running when no one's buying it as it's cheaper to import it! If the British coal industry was making money it wouldn't have been closed down. And let's not forgot that in 1979 around 45% of Union members voted for her!

As for buses and trains, what possible sense does it make for the government to be running transport, or infact any other aspect of public life when you get down to it? All it does it lead to big government, and people in charge of areas which they know nothing about. When you allowed the general public to own and operate such services they have a need to make money, and therefore have to operate in such a manner that allows the supply to meet the demand. With the government in charge it makes no difference whether money is made or not as it all comes from the taxes of the population, whether they use the services or not?

The UK was widely seen as the "sick man of Europe" in the 1970s, under the old socialist Labour Party, and some people even thought we'd end up devolving into a bloody developing country again! Instead, the UK emerged as one of the most successful economies in modern Europe.

She helped open up the market economy in Britain again after years of stagnation, finally realising that Keynesian economics was not the best way to go and introduced a proper monetarism based economic plan, which meant interest rates followed and this in turn lead to the booms on the late 1980s.

Poll Tax though was a f*** up, yes.

Clause 28 and Mandela, fine, she wasn't completly perfect, but then again Che Guevara was a mass murderer but people think it's acceptable to wear t-shirts of him because he was a left-wing terrorist so it's not as if lefties don't hold that against him I don't see why I should hold those things against Mrs T.

As a football fan and season ticket holder I'd be quite happy to have an ID card in order to attend matches to be honest. Not a hooligan so it wouldn't make any difference to me.

Now the pensions scheme didn't turn out as planned, but it's hardly Mrs T's fault that the stockmarket fell. Encouraging private pension though is a good thing as the more people who do it the more firms will off the service which will lead to good market competition which will mean that people will get higher returns on when they pay it.

To keep it simple for everyone - Drip-down economy. Person A makes a lot of money. Therefore can spend more money. This means that they can buy more stuff. That means more stuff needs to be made to satisfy the demand. So Person B is able to get a job making stuff. This means Person B has more money. Therefore can spend more money. This means they can buy more stuff. That means more stuff needs to be made to satisfy the demand. So Person C is able to get a job making stuff. And so on and so on. It's really simple economics.

Oh, after a very quick check, according to the UN the literacy rate in the UK is 99.9%. Shamefull.

Lmao ;)

I find the things Danielle, Jo & co are saying about Shilpa pretty disgraceful but that's cos I am applying my lofty middle class sensibilities to them, so is everyone. What's going on in the house isn't racism, it's (as the kindly faced Asian man on Big Brother's Big Mouth said last night) "ingorance" and playground bullying but that's it.

I used to have a bit of a soft spot for Jade: I thought she was harmless and funny. Now I think she's charmless and hideous.
