The photographer Kevin Cummins writes a piece in every Manchester City home game programme based on events in his life relating to the town / city the opposition are based at.

Today (Saturday 30th December) City faced Sheffield United and Cummins detailed attending The Smiths gig in Sheffield on 31st January 1984, under the title
"It's Time The Tale Were Told"

Appreciate the post. Good read. Amrik is clearly deaf, though.
 
I find it staggering that the NME would pay someone with the intention of doing a review of the gig and end up paying them for not doing a review of the gig.
I couldn't agree with you more! He clearly has just spewed out the venom he had building for a while about The Smiths and their success which any hater could have done. It's almost as if he wasn't there! He could at least have tailored his poisonous remarks based on what he witnessed at that particular gig. He might as well have stayed at home!
 
just shows the hatred from the nme was there from almost the start,fast forward a few years and sales would jump when M was on the cover so much so that it was being called the new morrissey express.
